Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that the OSCE Permanent Council convened a special session in Vienna on 15 January to address Russia's large-scale missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian territory.
The meeting took place at Ukraine's request immediately after Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis presented Switzerland's priorities for its 2026 OSCE chairmanship, according to Sybiha's statement on social media platform X.
"I thank all our partners and friends at the OSCE for their active participation in today's meeting, strong and unequivocal condemnation of Moscow's continued terror, as well as consolidated support of Ukraine's fight for freedom and lasting peace," Sybiha wrote.
The Ukrainian minister emphasized the organization's response capacity. "The OSCE's ability to respond in a timely and effective manner to each and every blatant violation of the Helsinki principles is critical," he added.
Sybiha also acknowledged the Swiss chairmanship's role in facilitating the discussion, expressing gratitude for its leadership and solidarity with Ukraine.
The special session was scheduled following reports that the OSCE would consider Russia's strikes on Ukrainian cities and its disregard for US-led peace efforts during an extraordinary debate on 15 January.
