Xi vows”reunification” with Taiwan — just weeks after NATO warned China attack could trigger Russian assault on Europe

In 2025, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the Alliance noticed a connection between China and Russia. He stressed that if China invades Taiwan, it could push its “junior partner” into an attack on Europe.

Such a statement raises concern, as General Alexus Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, previously stated that the US and the EU countries might have no more than 18 months to prepare for a possible large-scale military conflict with China and Russia. Such a double strike would pose a serious threat to the West.

"Reunification" talk after major exercises

Xi’s remarks came the day after intense Chinese military exercises around Taiwan.

“The reunification of our motherland, a trend of the times, is unstoppable," he said.

China considers Taiwan its territory and has long threatened annexation by force if necessary. US intelligence has grown increasingly concerned about China’s capability to launch an attack if Xi decides the time is right.

Justice Mission 2025: exercises closer than ever

This week, the Chinese Army conducted combat drills around Taiwan, simulating a blockade of major ports.

The exercises involved the navy, air force, missile forces, and coastal defense, with at least 200 aircraft and 27 missiles fired, several of which landed within 27 nautical miles of Taiwan’s coastline.
