Between 22 and 28 December, Russian forces launched over 2,100 strike drones, 800 guided aerial bombs, and more than 94 missiles at Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on social media.
Repair crews and energy workers are operating around the clock to restore power supply, Zelenskyy noted.
The president said he would discuss strengthening sanctions against Russia, supplying air defense missiles to Ukraine, and "steps that will end this war and guarantee security" with partners on Sunday.
"These are some of the most active diplomatic days of the year, and much can be decided before the New Year, and we are doing everything for this, but whether there will be decisions depends on partners. On those who help Ukraine, and on those who pressure Russia so that Russians feel the consequences of their own aggression," Zelenskyy said.
In the night of 27 December alone, Russia attacked Ukraine with 40 missiles and 519 drones. Air defense neutralized 503 aerial targets. The attacks targeted Kyiv and the surrounding region. Two people were killed—in Kyiv and in the Bila Tserkva district. More than 30 residents were injured. Nearly a third of the capital was left without heat supply following the attack.
Zelenskyy and Trump are scheduled to meet in Florida on 28 December. The Ukrainian president explained: "There are some issues that only we can discuss at the level of leaders." Trump expressed hope for a productive meeting but was skeptical about Zelenskyy's recent proposals regarding a 20-point peace plan.
The United States previously prepared a "peace plan" for the Russian-Ukrainian war. Initially, it contained 28 points. Among them: Ukraine would be required to concede the rest of Donbas; reduce the Armed Forces of Ukraine by half; freeze the contact line in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts; recognize Russian as a state language.
Russian President Vladimir Putin advised Ukraine to listen to "reasonable people in the West" who, according to him, promise "dignified conditions for resolving the conflict."
