President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia's latest massive strike on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities demonstrates its true stance toward peace proposals.
Zelenskyy reported that during the ongoing attack, Russia launched nearly 500 drones and 40 missiles at Ukraine, primarily targeting energy and civilian infrastructure in Kyiv.
"There have been many questions these past days. Where is Russia's response to the proposals to end the war that were provided by the United States and the world? Russian representatives hold lengthy talks, but in reality, 'Kinzhals' and 'Shaheds' speak for them," he wrote.
The head of state added that this represents "Putin's true attitude and that of his entourage."
"They don't want to end the war and try to use every opportunity to inflict more pain on Ukraine and increase their pressure on others in the world. And this means there is insufficient pressure in response," Zelenskyy said.
The president called on the United States and Europe to increase pressure on Russia and support Ukraine with weapons, particularly air defense systems.
On the night of 27 December, Russia launched another massive attack on Ukraine. Kyiv was struck with ballistic missiles, among other weapons. According to the latest data, 19 people were injured.
In connection with Russia's massive missile attack on Ukraine, Poland scrambled its fighter jets and temporarily closed airports in Rzeszów and Lublin. Overnight on 27 December, Russia launched nearly 500 drones at Ukraine, including a significant number of Shaheds, as well as 40 missiles, including Kinzhals.
Zelenskyy said: "The main target is Kyiv: energy and civilian infrastructure. Unfortunately, there are hits and damaged ordinary residential buildings. Rescuers are searching for a person under the rubble of one of them. In some districts of the capital and region, there is no electricity or heating. Repair crews have already started work at some energy facilities, at others personnel are in shelters – rescuers and repair workers will begin work immediately after air raid sirens are lifted."
The president urged partners to support Ukrainian defense and supply air defense systems.
"Russian representatives hold lengthy talks, but in reality 'Kinzhals' and 'Shaheds' speak for them. This is the true attitude of Putin and his entourage. They don't want to end the war and try to use every opportunity to inflict more pain on Ukraine and increase their pressure on others in the world. And this means there is insufficient pressure in response. If Russia turns even Christmas and New Year's time into a time of destroyed homes and burned apartments, ruined power plants, then this sick activity can only be answered with truly strong steps. America has this capability, Europe has this capability, many of our partners have this capability," Zelenskyy said.
As reported earlier, on the morning of 27 December, 19 people were confirmed injured in Kyiv as a result of the Russian attack.
