Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that the Ukrainian budget is currently unable to sustain the Armed Forces at their current strength of 800,000 troops. As a result, funding from allies is seen as a security guarantee for the country.
“No, it’s not feasible. There are insufficient financial resources. That’s why I am holding this dialogue with world leaders,” the Ukrainian leader said.
He added that after the war, Ukraine will need time to rebuild its economy and develop the capacity to fund its military independently.
Security guarantees: International aid
“For now, partner assistance is necessary,” the president stressed, adding that while Ukraine hopes for the war to end, Russia shows no readiness to halt its aggression.
Zelenskyy noted that security guarantees are still under development, and Ukraine has already shared its vision with the US and European partners.
Russia will not change its position on its own
Zelenskyy added that Ukraine hopes for an end to the war.
“We very much want it, and we are showing it. As for Russia’s demonstrations of willingness or readiness to end the war, honestly, I do not see them yet,” he said.
At the same time, Zelenskyy added that “our colleagues from the US say that Russia wants the war to end.”
“Well, you know how it can be sometimes. It wants to, but cannot do it. However, I believe that due to the persistence of our American partners, God willing, we will be able to stop Russia’s war,” he claimed.
Zelenskyy stressed that Russia will not change its position on its own because it does not want to.
