Former Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced the completion of this year's ammunition delivery target to Ukraine. The Czech-led initiative supplied 1.8 million units of large-caliber ammunition in 2024.

"I promised to deliver 1 800 000 pieces of large-caliber ammunition to Ukraine's defenders this year. I am glad to confirm that we have fulfilled this goal today," Fiala wrote on X.

The Czech initiative launched in early 2024 coordinates procurement of 155mm and 122mm artillery shells from countries outside the European Union. Over 18 nations participate in the program, including the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, France, and Poland, with each country determining its own funding levels and ammunition types.

President Petr Pavel recently said that the Czech Republic must continue supporting Ukraine not only for ideological but also for practical reasons. His comments came as parties forming the next government coalition discuss revising Czech support for Ukraine.

Tomio Okamura, chairman of the Chamber of Deputies and leader of the far-right SPD party, has called for ending all financial transfers to Ukraine and shutting down the Czech ammunition initiative.

Czech citizens largely support continued humanitarian aid to Ukraine, but their position on supporting refugees and supplying weapons to Kyiv remains divided, according to polling data.
