A Ukrainian private company head profited from the front and was caught. The Prosecutor General's Office reports that in Kyiv Oblast, law enforcement has uncovered a scheme in which an individual delivered low-quality uniforms to a local territorial defense unit, embezzling nearly $40,000 in public funds.
The scheme began with a contract between the Bila Tserkva City Council and the company to produce uniforms for the local volunteer territorial defense unit.
According to the investigation, the director deliberately reduced costs by:
- Using fabrics that did not meet regulatory standards.
- Violating sewing and production technology.
Despite the defects, he delivered the uniforms to the client as if they were of proper quality and received payment.
Military-side experts: up to 12 years in prison and property confiscation
The fraud was discovered only after the uniforms reached the soldiers, who began to complain en masse about the poor quality. Military uniforms are required to be made from modern, durable materials with thermoregulation capabilities and protection from wind, moisture, and dirt.
“Expert examination confirmed that the 830 supplied sets did not meet the technical requirements of the contract,” the prosecutors noted.
According to the investigation, the director was charged under Part 5, Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for embezzling property on an especially large scale during martial law. The entrepreneur faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
