Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko estimates the country will have approximately 5-6 million veterans and their family members following the war with Russia. She made the statement after meeting with representatives from the Coalition of Veterans' Public Organizations.
"According to our estimates, after the end of the war, Ukraine will have about 5-6 million veterans and members of their families. That is why veteran policy must be organically integrated into all spheres of life," Svyrydenko said.
The meeting produced several policy initiatives. The Ministry of Veterans will work with public organizations to hold discussions with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Economy on proposals in healthcare and employment, Svyrydenko announced.
The government will also address access to driver's license testing for veterans with disabilities who have trained at barrier-free driving schools, the Prime Minister added. The Ministry of Internal Affairs will be involved in this effort.
In November, the Ministry of Veterans reported that the state will compensate veterans with disabilities for the costs of retrofitting vehicles to meet their needs.
