Drones were spotted over a military base in Gnoien, eastern Germany, in October during training exercises for Ukrainian soldiers, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in comments to DPA.
The incident was first reported by Spiegel as part of an investigation into potential cases of Russian hybrid warfare documented by German police and counterintelligence.
The drone flight over the Gnoien base occurred on 13 October. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern police are investigating the case as "dangerous filming" of military facilities by unknown individuals.
Since the beginning of this year, Germany has recorded a "small four-digit number" of flights by unidentified drones over Bundeswehr facilities, defense companies, and critical infrastructure, according to Spiegel data.
German authorities have repeatedly warned that drones pose a security threat following a series of incursions near airports and military sites this year.
The German government has approved amendments to the Federal Police Act to give officers better tools to counter drones.
