Russia deliberately targets civilian infrastructure used solely for economic and humanitarian purposes. As a result of a massive Russian attack on 25 November, the Novus supermarket chain's logistics center was damaged, the company’s press service reported.
The strikes occurred amid growing debate over a US-proposed peace plan that was intended to outline a path to ending the war. Politicians and experts criticized the document for effectively forcing Ukraine to capitulate, and it is currently being revised. European partners submitted amendments, and it was this updated version that the Kremlin immediately declared “unacceptable.” Just hours later, Moscow launched a new attack on Kyiv.
A destroyed center built with EBRD financing
These strikes have nothing to do with “military targets." The company’s logistics hub began operating in 2024 and was built using a $100 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as per Interfax. Russia has now destroyed a major European investment, Forbes reports.
“Last night, our logistics center, the heart of NOVUS operations, was damaged as a result of a missile strike. It is one of the most modern facilities of its type in Ukraine, with an area of more than 50,000 square meters,” the company said on social media.
Four truck drivers killed, five people injured
According to the company, four truck drivers who had arrived to unload goods were killed. Another five people were injured. The company employees who were in the shelter at the time were not harmed.
“Emergency services are working at the site. We are assessing the damage. It is significant. However, our current priority is the people. Despite the strike, there will be no shortages in our stores,” the company added.
Preliminary reports indicate the center was destroyed by a Russian Iskander-K cruise missile.
