Ukrainian strike reportedly targets Russian air defenses in occupied Mariupol

In the occupied Mariupol, a Russian air defense base was attacked overnight on 10 November along the Mariupol Airport - Berdianske line, said Mariupol Mayor's Advisor Petro Andriushchenko on social media. Mariupol, a strategic Ukrainian port city on the Sea of Azov, fell to Russian forces in 2022 after a devastating siege. The city's strategic importance lies in its position as a key industrial center and its role in potentially creating a land bridge between Russia and annexed Crimea. The city's infrastructure was largely destroyed during the siege, with estimates suggesting that up to 90% of residential buildings were damaged or destroyed. As the human rights situation in occupied Mariupol is dire, residents of the city continue to wait for the liberation.

"Mariupol. Starting at 11:00 p.m., the air defense base along the Mariupol Airport - Berdianske line was attacked. At least four explosions were heard. Following the activation of enemy air defenses, a fire was reported near the airport. Preliminary reports indicate that one air defense unit was hit," he wrote.

Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal claimed that Russian forces exported over 180,000 tons of stolen Ukrainian grain through the port of Mariupol in 2024.

Shmyhal said that these Russian economic terrorism actions will be “one of the directions in the work of the special tribunal on the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine.”
