According to the November 4 assessment from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian forces have achieved new territorial gains across multiple regions amid intensified fighting along the frontlines, with their primary efforts concentrated in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast. Ukraine reclaimed ground north of Kharkiv, and near Donetsk Oblast’s Toretsk.
ISW reported Russian advances in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, particularly west of the Ukrainian salient. Geolocated footage published the same day revealed Ukrainian strikes on Russian forces near Novy Put, a village southwest of Glushkovo in Kursk Oblast, indicating Russian progress in the area.
In northeastern Ukraine’s Kharkiv Oblast, Ukrainian forces reportedly regained ground on the eastern bank of the Travianske Reservoir, west of Hlyboke, amidst persistent Russian operations in the vicinity. Geolocated footage published on 4 November confirmed Ukrainian advances in this region.
Further south, ISW noted significant Russian advancements along the Kupiansk-Svatove-Kreminna line running along the line of Luhansk and Kharkiv oblasts’ administrative border. Russian forces moving west of Novoselivske, southeast of Kupiansk, and southeast of Yampolivka, near Kreminna.
In Donetsk Oblast, Russian forces gained ground in several sectors of the front.
In the Toretsk sector, advancing along Molodizhna Street in northwestern Pivnichne, as indicated by geolocated footage from 3 November. Ukrainian forces reportedly regained positions in Nelipivka, southwest of Toretsk. Additional reports on 4 November confirmed further Russian advances near Pokrovsk, where troops from Russia’s 80th Tank Regiment conducted mechanized assaults toward Novooleksiivka, southwest of Selydove, and near Vyshneve, ad per ISW.
In the Kurakhove sector, Russian forces advanced into western Novodmytrivka and reportedly took control of the settlement of Hirnyk, as evidenced by footage posted by Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) head Denis Pushilin. In the Vuhledar direction, Russian troops reportedly raised the national flag in Shakhtarske, northwest of Vuhledar, signaling control over the settlement.
Meanwhile, the OSINT project DeepState reported on 5that on 4 November, Russian forces captured Stepaniivka in Donetsk Oblast, and advanced near Kurakhove, Kolisnykivka, Bohoyavlenka, and Kreminna Balka, as documented on their interactive war map.
