Russian shelling in Toretsk continues despite fewer assaults, said Spokesperson for the “Luhansk” operative-tactical group Anastasia Bobovnikova, according to UkrInform.
Toretsk, a Ukrainian stronghold since Russia’s first invasion of Donbas in 2014, is a strategically important settlement. Control of the city would give Russian forces a foothold to advance further into Ukrainian-held territory in Donetsk Oblast, a key objective in their military campaign.
“The number of enemy shelling incidents is not decreasing despite fewer direct assaults. The enemy is using both aviation and artillery,” the official said.
Bobovnikova noted that the front line has not shifted for a long time, and the Russians in Toretsk are not advancing. In urban combat, the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ infantry is actively engaged, and the situation in Toretsk remains stabilized.
“Russian troops have known for a long time that the Russian military leadership doesn’t care about their own soldiers or even equipment. They don’t mind, which is why they may resort to using aviation. Toretsk is hit every day, and Chasiv Yar faces a similar situation,” the spokesperson added.
Bobovnikova added that currently the Russian armed forces remain on the eastern outskirts of Toretsk.
