Ukraine’s former Ambassador to Türkiye, Vasyl Bodnar, has been appointed as the new Ambassador to Poland, according to presidential decrees published on the official website of the President of Ukraine.
By decrees dated 25 October, President Zelenskyy dismissed Bodnar from his position as Ambassador to Türkiye and appointed him Ambassador to Poland.
Bodnar brings significant diplomatic experience in Polish-Ukrainian relations, having served as a Ukrainian diplomat in Poland from 2006 to 2010.
He was also a Deputy Foreign Minister from 2017 to 2021, after which he headed the embassy in Türkiye, succeeding current Foreign Minister Andriy Syhiba.
The appointment comes amid evolving bilateral relations between the two countries. Polish President Andrzej Duda said on 29 October that Poland’s reduced military aid to Ukraine may have affected bilateral relations.
Warsaw now reportedly expects certain concessions in return for its assistance to Kyiv.
The former Ambassador to Warsaw, Vasyl Zvarych, has been reassigned to head the embassy in Prague.
