In the early hours of 4 October, a drone attack ignited an oil depot in Russia’s Voronezh Oblast 200 km from Ukraine’s border, as per local officials. A fire at a “private oil depot” in Perm Krai, with fuel tanks engulfed in flames, more than 1,500 km from Ukraine, Russia’s Emergency Ministry confirmed, but no drone attack is considered as its possible cause. No casualties were reported in either incident.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed shooting down 18 Ukrainian drones overnight. Six were allegedly destroyed over Belgorod Oblast, six over Voronezh Oblast, five over the Azov Sea, and one over Rostov Oblast.
Voronezh Oblast’s Anna
In Voronezh Oblast, a drone attack resulted in a fire at an oil depot in the urban-type settlement of Anna. Voronezh Oblast Governor Alexander Gusev claimed that several drones were suppressed by electronic warfare systems, with one ostensibly falling on the premises of the oil depot in Annensky district, causing a fire in an allegedly empty tank.
The Russian news Telegram channel Astra reported that local residents claimed a drone had attacked the oil depot of “Annanefteprodukt” company. Eyewitnesses asserted that the attack resulted in damage to the facility.
Later, Gusev stated that “A small fire on an empty tank at the oil depot was extinguished immediately after the arrival of firefighters. There was no damage to the oil depot.”
Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed the attack on the “Annanefteprodukt” fuel and lubricants storage base near Anna, Voronezh Oblast. The statement on Facebook read,
“At least one of the vertical tanks was hit. A fire broke out. The task was carried out by the forces and means of the Security Service of Ukraine in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.”
Perm Krai’s Osentsy
In Perm Krai, Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry reported a fire at a private oil storage facility in the Osentsy village’s inudstrial zone. The blaze engulfed fuel tanks and spread to an area of 10,000 square meters. The ministry stated that firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to private residential houses, the administrative building, and dry vegetation.
At around 8:00, Russia’s Emergency Ministry announced that the fire at the oil depot in Perm Krai had been extinguished. Investigators are considering two possible causes for the Perm incident: careless handling of fire or emergency operation of electrical equipment, not mentioning a drone attack as a potential cause for the Perm fire.
Separately, a fire broke out at a private oil storage facility in the village of Osentsy, located in Russia's Perm Krai, over 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine.
