Russian forces have made tactical advances in multiple sectors of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, according to a report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). The advances come as Ukrainian forces continue their counteroffensive operations in several areas.
In Donetsk Oblast, Russian troops have recently advanced northeast of Vuhledar. Geolocated footage published on 28 September shows Russian forces advancing to a windbreak south of Maksymilyanivka, approximately 20km northeast of Vuhledar. Additional footage from 29 September indicates further Russian advances south of Katerynivka, also northeast of Vuhledar.
On the western outskirts of Vuhledar, geolocated footage from 30 September shows a Russian servicemember of the 403rd Motorized Rifle Regiment planting a flag. However, the ISW notes that Russian forces have likely not yet seized the entire town, which has recently found itself surrounded from three sides.
In other parts of Donetsk Oblast, Russian forces have also made recent advances northeast of Chasiv Yar and in the Toretsk direction.
In Russia’s Kursk Oblast, both Russian and Ukrainian forces have made recent advances. Geolocated footage from 24 September shows Russian forces advancing southeast of Veseloye, while footage from 29 September indicates Ukrainian advances southeast of Korenevo.
