Berlin plans to host leaders from France, the UK, and the US to discuss support for Ukraine, reports Spiegel, citing Berlin officials.

Joe Biden will visit Germany from 10 to 12 October, less than a month before the US presidential election. The visit comes as Ukraine's international support becomes increasingly questionable. The timing coincides with widespread speculation about Ukraine's Victory plan, which Zelenskyy will present to Biden and the US presidential candidates this week.

"The meeting in the 'quartet' format will likely focus on issues of support for Ukraine," Spiegel reports.

Biden's itinerary also includes visiting the US military base in Ramstein. This will mark his second trip to Germany as US President, but his first official state visit. His previous visit was in 2022 for the G7 summit in Elmau, Bavaria.

This visit's timing is significant, coming just weeks before the US presidential election. It underscores the importance of transatlantic relations and the ongoing support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.

During his last address as president to the UN General Assembly on 24 September, Biden "promised to support Ukraine until victory in the war against Russia. This upcoming meeting in Germany appears to be a continuation of that commitment, bringing together key European allies to coordinate their efforts.

The choice of invitees - Germany, France, and the UK - represents the three largest economies in Europe and key NATO members.
