Ukraine has recently tested a new ground drone called Gnome, developed by the Ukrainian company Temerland for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The platform is designed to carry various weapons and provide fire support to soldiers and enhance non-contact combat operations, Militarnyi says.

Drone warfare innovations have become a defining feature of the Russo-Ukrainian war. Unmanned vehicles of various sizes, operating in the air, on land, and at sea, play a central role, with technology advancing rapidly. While aerial drones dominate the battlefield, land-based drones are becoming increasingly common as well.

According to Temerland, the roboric fire-support platform Gnom FS21 is equipped with RPG-7 anti-tank grenade launchers and the PKT machine gun, making it a formidable fire support platform. The company stated,

“It is not only a fire support platform but also a platform for dropping mines, transporting the wounded, and clearing anti-personnel mines.”

The drone features a mine-laying system for anti-tank mines. Temerland reported that the platform “can be modified with four RPG-7s and the ability to install two TM-62 mines and one MON-90 mine on the ground.” The MON-90 heavy anti-personnel mine weighs 12.1 kg, while the TM-62 anti-tank mine weighs 7.5 kg.

The Gnome weighs 88 kilograms and can reportedly reach a speed of 5.5 km/h. It has a payload capacity of 40 kg and can be controlled from a distance of up to 2,000 meters. Militarnyi says Temerland emphasized that their drones are designed to operate under the influence of electronic warfare.

The recent tests were conducted before sending the drone to the front, where military personnel will evaluate its performance in actual combat conditions.

In May, Ukraine tested another Temerland product, the Solomandra robotic platform, which is intended to assist with demining operations.
