The European Athletics has launched voting for the continent’s best male and female athletes of 2024, according to Ukrinform.
The Ukrainian Athletics Federation reports that the names of the winners will be announced on 26 October at a gala ceremony in Skopje. Whether Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh will be among them largely depends on the fans.
In 2024, Mahuchikh broke the world high jump record that had stood for 37 years. She cleared 2.10 meters on her first attempt during the Diamond League stage in Paris. Less than a month later, she became the Olympic champion.
In addition to the Olympic Games, Yaroslava won every competition she participated in during the summer of 2024, including the European Championships and the Diamond League final. She was also undefeated during the winter season. The only indoor event where she did not win gold was the World Championships in Glasgow, but even there, she secured a silver medal.
These achievements led to Mahuchikh’s inclusion on the list of nominees for the title of Europe’s best female athlete.
Voting will continue on the European Athletics website until 29 September. To vote, users must select their favorite candidates and confirm their votes by logging into an existing account or creating a new one.
