Russian attacks kill two, injure 11 civilians; Ukraine downs 12/15 “kamikaze” drones

Overnight on 9 March, Ukraine’s air defense units destroyed 12 out of 15 Russian one-way attack drones in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Poltava oblasts, as per the Air Force. Local authorities say other Russian attacks killed at least two and injured 11 civilians in two regions.

Russia conducts Shahed suicide drone attacks on Ukraine every night, in addition to the shelling of frontline settlements. The attacks often damage civilian infrastructure and injure local residents.

Daily Shahed assault

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that last night, Russia launched 15 Shahed-type one-way attack drones from the south, particularly from Cape Chauda in occupied Crimea and from Primorsko-Akhtarsk in  Russia’s Krasnodar Krai.

According to the report, Ukrainian surface-to-air missile units and mobile fire groups destroyed 12 of those 15 Shaheds in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Poltava oblasts.

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Head Serhii Lysak says five of the drones were downed in the skies of his region’s Kryvyi Rih district, but one of the Shaheds hit an industrial enterprise, causing a fire.

Additionally, the Russians fired 10 shells on the town of Marhanets and a village in the Nikopol area, but no one was injured in these attacks, according to Lysak.

Civilians targeted in Kherson Oblast

Oleksandr Prokudin, Kherson oblast chief, says yesterday and last night, the Russians carried out fire attacks on 19 settlements in the region, killing two and injuring two other civilians. The Russian attacks damaged four residential high-rises, 30 one-family homes, administrative buildings, and a kindergarten, among other facilities.

Last night, Russians targeted a five-story house with an aerial bomb, injuring a seven-year-old child, according to Prokudin.

Donetsk oblast authorities said that yesterday, Russian attacks injured nine civilians across the region.
