Belgium to fund $ 216 mn for Czech initiative to transfer 800K shells to Ukraine

Belgium will allocate 200 million euros ($ 216 million) to the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said in X on 28 February.

“We will never be able to match the sacrifices that Ukraine makes every day. But we can give President Zelenskyy what he asks for – more weapons to defend against the Russian aggressor. Belgium will finance the Czech initiative with 200 million euros,” he wrote on X

According to the Belgian PM, more ammunition will arrive in the coming weeks.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Czech President Petr Pavel said his country had found about 800,000 artillery shells abroad that could be sent to Ukrainian troops within a few weeks. He said financial support is needed to deliver these munitions to Ukraine.

Pavel also said that Denmark, the Netherlands, and Canada already provided resources to supply military equipment to the Czech Republic and “quickly transport it to Ukraine.”
