Ukrainian hackers targeted a Moscow-based internet service provider, as revealed by a source within Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies speaking to Ukrinform.
“Hackers from the Blackjack group, who are likely related to the SBU [Security Service of Ukraine], hacked the Moscow-based internet service provider M9com and destroyed its servers,” the source is cited as said.
The source claimed that the hackers erased approximately 20 terabytes of data, including the company’s official website, branch websites, mail server, and cyber protection services.
Consequently, a portion of Moscow residents experienced disruptions in internet and television access, Ukrinform says.
Additionally, the cyber warriors retrieved over 10 gigabytes of data from the company’s mail server and client databases, making them accessible for research via TOR network by anyone interested.
According to Ukrinform’s source, the hackers said this was a “warm-up attack” before the bigger one, which will be a “serious revenge for Kyivstar.”
On 12 December, Ukraine’s telecommunications operator Kyivstar said it was the target of a powerful hacker attack. Customers were left without phone or internet access for several days.
On the next day, Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) claimed to have attacked Russia’s tax system, destroying the entire database and its backup copies.
In late December, hackers from the Ukrainian IT army paralyzed the operation of the Russian automated enterprise management system 1C-Rarus.
