Finland resumes border crossing with Russia until 14 January, YLE reported on 14 December.
Russia attempted to artificially create a migrant crisis at the Finnish border, gathering migrants from the Middle East, Africa, and other regions to send them to the Finnish border.
However, on 26 November, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said in an interview with YLE that the Finnish government would close the last border crossing with Russia “if necessary.”So they did on 28 November, closing all eight border checkpoints on the Finnish-Russian border.
On 14 December, Finland reopened the Vaalimaa and Niirala border crossing points. However, the points will be open for a month, until 14 January 2024. The government is prepared to quickly close the eastern border again if Russia continues bringing asylum seekers to the border, YLE said.
According to the report, the other border stations will remain closed for now.
