Frontline report: Ukrainians liberate Nadiia, continue advancing in Luhansk Oblast

Today, there is a lot of good news regarding the situation in Luhansk Oblast and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainians have finally managed to reverse the momentum and push the Russians back into the region.

Initially, the Russian forces made a breakthrough, opening three axes of advance and unexpectedly concentrating their artillery fire on a small section of the front line. This allowed them to advance about 4 km and capture three settlements.

However, Ukrainian forces quickly adapted to the situation and reinforced the region with available forces and artillery systems. Additionally, the local geography posed challenges for the Russian forces, limiting their ability to advance further.

To overcome these difficulties, the Russian forces needed to supply their bridgehead with abundant resources, but they faced significant trouble transferring anything beyond infantry over the river.

After intense artillery preparation, Ukrainian forces launched their first counterattack. As a result, Russian forces retreated, and Ukrainians regained control over Nadiia. Although Russian sources claimed to retain control over adjacent positions, it is unlikely they held them for long as they were operationally encircled.

The second counterattack took place in Novoehorivka, where Ukrainian forces advanced along the tree belt and pushed the Russians out of the settlement. Russian sources confirmed the counterattacks and acknowledged the loss of several positions but did not specify if they lost the settlement itself.

Similarly, the third counterattack occurred in the direction of Karmazynivka. Geolocated footage from the previous day showed Russians shelling the small forest they previously controlled, suggesting a successful Ukrainian counterattack in that area as well.

Today, Russian sources released combat footage, indicating that they are already shelling the next positions on the line, implying further Ukrainian advancement.

In summary, Ukrainians have managed to stabilize the situation in the northeast and pushed the Russians back along the entire line of incursion. Russian analysts believe their forces are currently on the defensive, conserving resources because they anticipate a larger counterattack from the Ukrainians attempting to push them back across the river.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces continue successful offensive operations south of Bakhmut. There is confirmation that Russian forces retreated from Andriivka.

Geolocated footage shows their new positions behind the railway embankment, around 50 meters east of the settlement. Ukrainian fighters from the special forces detachment Kraken are actively pursuing the retreating Russians, destroying shelters with precise artillery and drone strikes.

Simultaneously, the 3rd assault brigade conducted an extensive operation near Kurdiumivka, aiming to expand the bridgehead, secure the flanks, and pave the way for a broad frontline penetration. This operation yielded positive results, with Ukrainians clearing multiple tree lines and forcing Russians to abandon numerous trenches and fortifications. Now, they are poised to try to penetrate the Russians from two sides.

President Zelenskyy visited the Ukrainian fighters in Bakhmut, expressing his admiration for the recently conducted operations and praising the fighters as true professionals and heroes. Indeed, the Ukrainian fighters have achieved remarkable success, gaining control over some of the most powerful fortifications in the east within weeks, a feat that eluded the Russians for months.

With the most formidable line of defense breached, Ukrainian forces are now planning to achieve stable progress on the ground. This progress represents a significant turn of events in the conflict, and the situation continues to evolve as both sides adapt to the changing dynamics on the battlefield.
