German Parliament green-lights procurement of ammunition for Bundeswehr and Ukrainian Army
Additional ammunition for the PzH2000 howitzer and Leopard 2 tank has been approved for procurement by the Bundestag Budget Committee on 5 July, as reported by Germany’s Defense Ministry. The shells will be supplied to both the Bundeswehr and the Ukrainian army.

“Russia’s attack on Ukraine has radically changed the security environment. This makes it necessary to procure additional ammunition – for the Bundeswehr, but also for Ukraine’s Armed Forces. The country is fighting for its independence, using self-propelled Panzerhaubitze 2000 and the Leopard 2 main battle tank from Germany – the need for 155-millimeter artillery shells for the howitzer and 120-millimeter shells for the main battle tank is also being met with German assistance,” the ministry wrote.

According to the German Defense Ministry, every Bundeswehr procurement project worth more than 25 million euros must be approved by the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag before the contract is concluded.

The Budget Committee approved the purchase of a “significant quantity of 155-millimeter explosive munitions [for the Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer] to support Ukraine. It comes complete with fuzes, propelling charges, and propellant fuzes and can also be fired by other NATO artillery systems, such as the M777.”

Additionally, the Committee approved the procurement of 120-millimeter shells for the main gun of the Leopard 2s of the German and Ukrainian armies, and 30-millimeter ammunition for the Bunderwehr’s Puma IFVs, as well as training munitions for MG3 and MG5 machine guns.
