A Russian munitions cargo ship hit at the same Berdiansk berth two nights running

A second Ukrainian unit struck a vessel at the dock in the same occupied port a night after the first, both targeting Russia’s sea-supply route.

Ukrainian drones struck a Russian cargo ship reportedly loaded with ammunition in the port of occupied Berdiansk on 31 May, Militarnyi reported. The vessel was the second hit at the same dock in two nights. Berdiansk — an Azov Sea port in Zaporizhzhia Oblast — has become Russia's preferred route for supplying its southern front by sea and has also been a recurring Ukrainian target.

Russia's hold on Ukraine's south depends on moving fuel, shells, and troops faster than Ukraine can sever the routes that carry them.

The strike

A strike drone from the 422nd Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment, a Ukrainian drone unit, Luftwaffe, hit the ship at the port. The unit posted a thermal image of the strike on its Telegram.

The hit landed at Berth No. 3, where the vessel was likely unloading. Ukrainian OSINT group CyberBoroshno noted that it was the same spot that was struck the night before. In the early hours of 31 May, a drone from the 412th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade "Nemesis," part of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), had attacked another ship there.

Occupied Berdiansk is a key logistics hub for Russia. Its berths handle military equipment, ammunition, fuel, and troops shipped in from Novorossiysk and other ports on the Azov Sea. The port has gained value as Ukrainian drones reach Russian supply lines up to 200 kilometers from the front. With the highways under fire, the sea route offered steadier deliveries.

Ukrainian drones had already hit an ammunition ship at the same berths in mid-May, in daylight.

A wider campaign

The strikes fit a broader Ukrainian effort known as the Logistics Lockdown. It is a coordinated campaign to scale up medium-range drone strikes against Russian convoys, depots, and command posts 20 to 200 kilometers behind the front. Kyiv formalized the push in late May, routing funds to the brigades doing the hitting. Ports, roads, and rail all fall within its reach.
