Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, announced that the Latvian government has approved a support package for Ukraine worth €6.8 million. The aid will be delivered to Chernihiv and Sumy oblasts.
Chernihiv Oblast is the only region in Ukraine that borders both Russia and Belarus. Via the region, Russia launches most of its Shahed drones and missiles that target Kyiv and the central regions of Ukraine, with attacks reaching 500–600 drones per day. The power infrastructure, medical facilities, and recreation zones here are being destroyed every day. In addition to strikes to the east, launches are also directed westward, including toward Volyn Oblast, which borders Poland.
“Latvia’s government has decided on a support package for Ukraine worth 6.8 million EUR,” Braže wrote.
Latvia remains one of Kyiv’s most consistent allies in resisting Russian aggression. Riga provides Ukraine with significant military aid (weapons, armored personnel carriers, training), financial support, and actively lobbies for sanctions against Russia at the EU and NATO levels.
Aid Strengthens shelters, infrastructure
According to Braže, the package will strengthen Ukraine’s energy system, shelters, infrastructure, social and civil resilience, and drone capabilities.
“Latvia willl always stand with Ukraine,” the foreign minister emphasized.
In February, the Latvian government allocated €10 million to support Ukraine under NATO’s PURL initiative, through which Kyiv receives Patriot air defense systems, the only systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, per Delfi.
New CVR(T) Armored Vehicles from Latvia boost mobility
Earlier, Latvia sent new CVR(T) armored vehicles to Ukraine, noted for their high maneuverability. This is achieved through a lightweight aluminum alloy hull, which provides protection against bullets and shrapnel while maintaining low ground pressure.
The combat weight of the FV103 in its base configuration is approximately 8,170 kg, increasing to 10,600 kg in modern variants with additional armor. The maximum speed in combat conditions is 75 km/h, with a range of 510 km.
