The pro-Ukrainian partisan movement Atesh has claimed responsibility for setting fire to a freight locomotive in the Russian city of Oryol, alleging the act was intended to disrupt military logistics toward the Sumy direction.
Atesh is a pro-Ukrainian partisan movement that operates inside Russia and in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine. It claims to have informants within the Russian military and reports carrying out acts of sabotage targeting railways, logistics hubs, and other infrastructure linked to Russian military activity.
Sabotage at Oryol railway junction targets heavy cargo engine
In a statement released on 15 February, the group said its agents carried out a sabotage operation at a railway junction in Oryol, located in Russia’s Oryol Oblast.
Atesh stated that the targeted locomotive was a VL80 model, describing it as a mainline heavy freight electric engine widely used on Russian railways to haul large cargo loads, including military equipment and ammunition.
Group says destroyed engine supplied forces along Sumy axis
According to the group, the destroyed locomotive had been used to transport weapons, fuel, and equipment from rear areas toward border regions to reinforce Russian forces operating along the Sumy axis.
Atesh claimed the sabotage would complicate supply chains and delay the delivery of military cargo.
