Republicans allegedly win control of US Senate

Republicans have secured control of the US Senate following key victories by Donald Trump allies, according to Associated Press projections.

The Republican victory in the Senate means they will have control over confirming presidential nominees for executive positions and federal courts and will hold significant leverage in upcoming tax and spending legislation.

With at least 51 seats in the 100-member chamber, Republicans will be able to block Democratic initiatives and play a decisive role in the fate of expiring Trump-era tax provisions worth trillions of dollars

Republicans have said they intend to chip away at Biden’s climate law, roll back regulations on energy production, strengthen the US border with Mexico and extend Trump’s 2017 tax breaks, the AP reports, citing its source.

Republican incumbents Ted Cruz and Rick Scott retained their seats in Texas and Florida, while Democrats secured a victory in Maryland with Angela Alsobrooks defeating former Republican Governor Larry Hogan.
