Ukraine’s General Staff confirms successful attack on Khanskaya airfield in Russia

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the attack on the Russian Adygea airbase on 10 October, stating, "Tonight, a fire strike was carried out on the Khanskaya airfield in the Republic of Adygea of the Russian Federation. In particular, the ammunition depot located on the territory of the military facility was hit. Enemy air defense activity was noted in the target area, and ignition was recorded."

This year, Ukraine has intensified its drone attacks against the military and fuel facilities within Russia, significantly disrupting fuel and ammunition supplies crucial for the Russian military. Many of such attacks targeted Russian bomb warehouses at airbases deep inside Russia.

Sources in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) told Ukrinform that at the time of the attack, 57 Russian combat and training aircraft and helicopters were present at the airfield, including Su-34, Su-35, and Mi-8. The extent of the damage is still being determined, but large-scale fires and detonations have been confirmed, including through satellite monitoring.

According to agency sources, Russia has been using this airfield in Krasnodar Krai, located 450 km from the frontline, for refueling and launching missile and bomb strikes on Ukrainian defense forces and populated areas.

A Ukrainian military intelligence source told Ukrinform that the Khanskaya airfield is home to the Russian 272nd Polotsk Training Aviation Base of the 2nd category of the Krasnodar Higher Military Aviation School for Pilots. At the time of the attack, the following aircraft were reportedly present: 12 Su-34 aircraft, 2 Diamond DA42 aircraft, 37 L-39 aircraft, 4 Su-35S aircraft, and 2 Mi-8 helicopters.

Ukrainian special services have recorded that following the explosions at the Khanskaya airfield, numerous ambulances and fire engines were dispatched to the scene. The full extent of the damage from the attack is still being assessed.
