Ukraine achieves “partial successes” in south, holds back Russian offensive in east – military
On 23 June, the Ukrainian military reported “partial success” in two directions on the southern front, and that Ukrainian forces halted Russian offensives in the east.

The spokesman for the Ukrainian Army’s General Staff, Andrii Kovaliv, said at a briefing in the Ukrainian Military Media Center that Ukrainian troops were making progress in Melitopol and Berdiansk directions of the southern front:

“In the areas of Novodanylivka – Robotyne and Mala Tokmachka – Novofedorivka, we have achieved partial success and are consolidating the achieved positions,” he said.

According to Kovaliov, Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back the Russian offensive at the Lyman (Luhansk/Kharkiv Oblast), Avdiivka, and Mariinka (Donetsk Oblast) directions.

He says particularly heavy fighting continues:

  • in the Lyman sector near Bilohorivka, Luhansk Oblast;
  • in the Avdiivka sector in the vicinity of Severne and Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast;
  • in the Mariinka sector near the towns of Mariinka and Pobeda in Donetsk Oblast.

Also, Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar, who had previously announced Russian assaults in Kupiansk and Lyman directions, wrote on Telegram that Ukrainian forces had halted the Russian offensive in the east, specifying that they have stopped the enemy in the directions of Kupiansk (Kharkiv Oblast) and Lyman (Donetsk Oblast).
