Japanese company Terra Drone is accelerating its operations in Ukraine, moving from announcements to concrete investment and field engagement, according to Defence 24.

The company plans not only to expand research and production but also to send its own engineers to Ukraine to test solutions directly under combat conditions.

This marks the next step in Terra Drone’s entry into the defense sector and is a key element of the company’s broader strategy.

Its drones have attracted interest from Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which are exploring a $2,500 interceptor drone as a cost-effective way to counter Iranian attacks that deplete US-made missile stockpiles, as per Reuters.

Japanese technology meets Ukrainian combat expertise

A central part of Terra Drone’s strategy is collaboration with the Ukrainian startup Amazing Drones, which is part of the Brave1 cluster.

The Japanese company has already invested in Amazing Drones, marking the first public Japanese investment in a Ukrainian defense company.

Amazing Drones specializes in interceptor drones, including systems designed to counter Iranian “Shahed” UAVs, which Russia has deployed in attacks on Ukraine.

The solutions are based on front-line experience and are continuously improved in short research and development cycles.

Engineers on frontline: practical training and technology during war

A particularly important aspect of Terra Drone’s plan is the direct involvement of Japanese specialists in field operations.

Engineers and manufacturing experts work in Ukraine to test and refine technologies under real combat conditions, significantly accelerating development.

At the same time, the company learns from Ukrainian partners how to operate effectively in wartime conditions, especially in decentralized production and defending against attacks.

This approach is becoming critical for the growth of the defense industry in a country under constant threat.

Earlier, Japan pledged approximately $20 billion in assistance to Ukraine, channeled through humanitarian, financial, and reconstruction fields — a form of support shaped by the country's war-renouncing Constitution, which imposes restrictions on weapons exports.
