The Ukrainian Institute of National Memory (UINP) reports it has launched an open appeal to the international community regarding Russian attacks on UNESCO heritage sites in Ukraine. It also invited everyone to sign the open appeal, providing their name, surname, and city (country) in the comments.
Within a few days, the appeal will be sent to UNESCO and international partners with the goal of removing Russia from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Attack on Lviv: drones strike World Heritage site
During the attack in Lviv, around 4 PM, a drone struck the city's central area, which is protected by UNESCO and part of the world's cultural heritage.
Persistent attacks on Ukraine’s cultural heritage represent a deliberate Kremlin policy aimed at destroying Ukrainian national memory and cultural identity.
International solidarity is essential: sign appeal!
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Russian Federation has destroyed or damaged over 1,600 cultural heritage sites in Ukraine.
UINP calls on the international community to take coordinated action to stop the unprovoked war against Ukraine, the killing and abduction of children, civilians, and military personnel, and Russia’s destruction of European cultural heritage in Ukraine.
On 23 March, Russia launched the largest attack on Ukraine so far, using 948 drones. Analysts say that this attack was aimed to disctract attention from the failing spring-summer offensive campaign.
In Ivano-Frankivsk, a Russian attack killed National Guard member Volodymyr Shkrumelyak and his daughter Anelia, born in 2010. They were returning from the maternity hospital after visiting their mother and newborn child. Recently, Volodymyr became a father again.
In addition, one person was killed, and 11 were injured in the Vinnytsia Oblast as a result of the massive attack.
