China and Russia have the closest strategic coordination, including on protecting the current world order and international rules, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says, as per UkrInform.
Global context: Russia’s war and US operation in Middle East
His remarks come amid two major wars — the US and Israeli operation against Iran and Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. Beijing is known to supply Russia with drone components that reach the country as dual-use goods.
China has also condemned the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, calling it a “gross violation of international law.” During his rule, Iran reportedly executed between 10,000 and 20,000 protesters opposing the regime of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Speaking during the ongoing session of China’s National People’s Congress, Wang says the two countries maintain a high level of political trust and coordinate closely on major international affairs.
"We are not afraid of pressure": Alliance with Russia withstands crises
“Russia-China relations maintain the highest level of resilience and remain unshakable like a rock despite the complex and changing international environment. We are not afraid of any external provocations or pressure,” Wang says.
According to him, political trust in bilateral relations allows the two countries to maintain close cooperation.
“In important international and regional affairs, China and Russia share the broadest strategic consensus and the closest strategic coordination,” the top diplomat says.
The minister also refers to last year’s commemoration in both countries of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, as well as to joint statements by the leaders of China and Russia on deepening strategic coordination, strengthening global stability, and supporting the authority of international law.
“This sends a clear signal to the world about the need to firmly uphold the correct view of the history of World War II, preserve the fruits of victory in that war, and oppose unilateral acts of intimidation,” China’s foreign minister says.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, citing Ukrainian intelligence and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), that China supplies Russia with artillery and gunpowder. According to him, Chinese companies are also involved in weapons production on Russian territory.
It also became known last year that at least 155 Chinese citizens are fighting in the Russian army, according to information obtained by Ukrainian special services.
