Ukraine has dismantled a modern Russian Mesh network used by Shahed drones for attacks launched from the Belarusian territory. Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that this significantly enhanced Kyiv's and central Ukraine's defense capabilities against Russia's attacks, as per Ukrainska Pravda.
In this network, which involved many Shaheds operating simultaneously, each drone needed to be connected to the command system run by Russian operators overseeing the process.
Node system on residential rooftops
“Such nodes are usually a mobile operator’s tower or another 70–80 meter-high structure, equipped with powerful antennas aimed toward Ukraine. Through them, information was sent to command centers,” explains Beskrestnov.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has recently confirmed that equipment in Belarus was even installed on residential rooftops to help Shaheds target objects in western regions of Ukraine.
Eliminating the Mesh network — a serious blow to Russia
Defense Minister Fedorov has noted that removing this network significantly complicates control over attacking drones and increases the safety of settlements and strategic sites in northern and central Ukraine.
“Neutralizing such a complex Russian command system is an important step in protecting Ukrainian lives and strengthening the country’s defense,” he adds.
Operations like this demonstrate that Ukraine can neutralize high-tech threats before they are deployed on the battlefield.
