A round of negotiations in Geneva involving Ukrainian and US officials has concluded, Ukraine’s Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov said, with preparations underway for the next substantive trilateral meeting that will also include Russian representatives.
Umerov said talks in Switzerland took place in bilateral and trilateral formats, with separate sessions involving the American delegation and a three‑party meeting with the United States and Switzerland.
Afterward, he, parliamentary negotiator Davyd Arakhamia and US representatives Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner joined Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on a call to discuss results and next steps.
Security, economics, and recovery plan under review
Officials are working to finalize security parameters, economic decisions and agreed positions to form the basis of future arrangements, Umerov said. He added that the aim is to make the upcoming trilateral meeting involving the United States and Russia as substantive as possible.
Particular attention was given to the economic track and long‑term support mechanisms for Ukraine, with Umerov saying that Ukrainian and US teams conducted a detailed review of a recovery document outlining future reconstruction and investment plans, and will continue refining its details.
Next trilateral round being prepared
The Geneva talks follow recent US‑mediated trilateral meetings between Ukraine, the United States and Russia held earlier in the city this month, which focused on parameters for ending the war.
The next round of trilateral talks is being prepared, with officials aiming to build on progress in security, economic cooperation and agreed positions to support longer‑term diplomatic arrangements.
