Ukraine has targeted the concentration area of a missile division of the 15th Separate Coastal Missile Brigade of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which operates the Bastion coastal missile system, the Ukrainian General Staff reports.
Russia used this system in its latest attack on Ukraine, which killed a civilian in Kyiv Oblast and injured at least two children who are in intensive care.
Oniks and hypersonic Tsirkon: modern Russian missiles and their capabilities
The Bastion can launch Oniks missiles and the advanced hypersonic anti-ship Tsirkon missiles, which maneuver at high speeds and can only be intercepted by American-made Patriot systems.
UA War Infographics researchers estimate that a Tsirkon fired from Sevastopol would reach Kyiv in about 6 minutes, Vinnytsia in 5.5 minutes, and Odesa in 2.5 minutes.
Bastion defense: Russian air defense coverage and protective measures
Bastion systems are typically covered by short- and long-range air defense systems, complicating attempts to hit them.
Despite this, on 23 February, Ukrainian forces successfully struck the concentration area of the 15th Separate Coastal Missile Brigade in Crimea. Target damage has been confirmed, with Russian losses under assessment.
Strikes on Russian depots and command posts in Donetsk and Mykolaiv oblasts
In addition to Crimea, the Ukrainian Armed Forces hit multiple Russian positions in eastern and southern Ukraine:
- Near temporarily occupied Nyzhnia Krynka, Donetsk Oblast— ammunition depot of the “South” group;
- Near Velyka Novosilka, Donetsk Oblast — material and technical supply depot;
- Near temporarily occupied Pokrovka, Mykolaiv Oblast— UAV command post of an enemy air-assault regiment.
Russian losses and the full scale of damage are being clarified.
