Civil society can mitigate Russian attacks: Czech organization delivers 357 generators to Ukraine

Foreign civil society can directly mitigate the humanitarian impact of Russian attacks in Ukraine. The Czech organization “Memory of Nations” (Post Bellum) is currently delivering medical equipment and hundreds of generators to Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

Ukraine has suffered from 257 Russian strikes on energy infrastructure since the start of the cold season amid US-initiated "peace talks", which have produced no results toward ending the war.

“Our trucks are traveling across Ukraine these days, delivering a total of 357 generators,” Martin Oknecht, head of the project “Aid to Ukraine with Memory of Nations", says

In cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine and local authorities, the equipment is being directed primarily to the Kharkiv, Kherson, and Mykolaiv oblasts that regularly face shelling and power outages.

Over $185,000 for Sumy Oblast: a new aid route

A few days ago, representatives of the initiative met with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who thanked them for their support and advised allocating part of the assistance to Sumy Oblast.

Following the meeting, the organization contacted Ukraine’s ambassador to the Czech Republic, Vasyl Zvarych.

“In Brno, a truck is already being prepared with generators worth over $185,000. It will go directly to Sumy Oblast. The shipment will depart within a week,” Oknecht says.

The aid has evolved since 2022

The organization has supported Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale war in February 2022. Initially, activists focused on providing Ukrainian soldiers with protective gear — body armor, helmets, and medical equipment.

In total, 13,577 body armor vests were produced in-house with the help of 200 volunteers and 20 Ukrainian refugees at a warehouse in Prague.

Later, “Memory of Nations” expanded its support, beginning to supply ambulances, military evacuation vehicles, and other transport to rescue the wounded. Recently, an all-terrain vehicle was also delivered.
