A transformer fire at the Severnaya thermal power plant in Vladivostok left approximately 48,000 residents without electricity on 10 February, according to the city administration and local media.
Social media users reported a loud sound and bright flash near the power plant, followed by immediate blackouts across multiple buildings in the city. The incident also disrupted water supply in several residential areas after pumping equipment stopped working, local media reported.
The temperature in the city is holding at 2-3°C below zero, according to reports.
Prosecutors from the Pervorechensky district arrived at the scene to investigate compliance with fire safety regulations during the operation of the substation. Energy workers took emergency action at about 4 pm local time, disconnecting the high-voltage line "Volna — Burun."
By 5 pm power supply was restored to the affected Soviet district, and the lines were put back into operation, the administration reported.
The prosecutor's office continues to investigate the cause of the incident.
