The US State Department has approved the possible sale of military equipment spare parts to Ukraine worth $185 million, according to a press release from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the US Department of Defense dated 6 February.

The Ukrainian government requested the purchase of spare parts for maintaining vehicles and weapons systems previously supplied by the US military, as well as additional logistics elements and software support.

"This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe," the Defense Department statement reads.

The approval focuses primarily on Class IX spare parts—components necessary for repair and maintenance of military equipment Ukraine has received from the United States. The request also includes logistics elements and software support, with the package valued at $185 million.

This marks the latest military sale under the Trump administration. The first weapons sale to Ukraine under President Donald Trump's administration was approved in May 2025, involving defense equipment and services worth at least $50 million. Washington made that decision following the signing of a minerals agreement between Ukraine and the US.

Ukraine also currently operates under the PURL program, which allows Kyiv to purchase American weaponry. On 14 July 2025, the US and NATO concluded the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List agreement, enabling European countries to finance Ukraine's purchases of American weapons. According to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the agreement could provide Kyiv with significant quantities of air defense systems, missiles, and ammunition.

During his visit to Kyiv on 3 February, Rutte stated he has "absolute certainty" in the stable funding of the PURL initiative.

In December 2025, President Donald Trump signed the 2026 defense budget bill with a budget of $901 billion, which also includes assistance for Ukraine.
