Russia is trying to compensate for its logistical problems in Ukraine. Moscow is increasingly using ground robotic systems on the battlefield to deliver ammunition, says Denys Bihun, press officer of the 79th Kherson Border Detachment, ArmyInform reports.
Russian ground robots at the front: covert movement
Russian ground robotic systems are being detected and destroyed more frequently at the front. The occupiers mainly use them for:
- delivering ammunition,
- remote mine-laying,
- logistical support of units.
Russian forces attempt to deploy such platforms under favorable weather conditions, acting as covertly as possible and avoiding direct observation.
Destruction of ground drones on the southern axis
Recently, border guards of Ukraine's 79th Detachment destroyed two Russian ground robotic systems along with their ammunition.
“The detonation was so powerful that the explosion was heard from a considerable distance. The equipment was literally blown to pieces,” Denys Bihun says.
According to him, detecting these systems was complicated by weather conditions, as well as by the fact that the Russians:
- carefully camouflages robotic platforms,
- uses field roads,
- avoids open areas and aerial reconnaissance.
Why is Russia relying on ground drones?
The use of ground robotic platforms for ammunition delivery, mine-laying, and even the evacuation of the wounded is a direct sign of the systematic breakdown of the Russian traditional logistics.
“The occupiers are increasingly resorting to ground robotic platforms because units of the Defense Forces are systematically breaking their logistics,” the officer emphasizes.
Artillery strikes, drone attacks, and the help of rear routes are forcing Russian units to seek alternative, technological means of supply, minimizing the involvement of manpower.
