On 4 February, right when the Ukrainian delegation had "peace" talks with Russia in Abu Dhabi, Russia killed many Ukrainian civilians with a single strike. The occupying army shelled Druzhkivka's market in Donetsk Oblast with cluster munitions.
The Office of the Prosecutor General has clarified that Russia struck the market with a Smerch MLRS.
So far, 7 people have been killed and 15 injured, reported Vadym Filashkin, head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration.
“The Russians shelled the city with cluster munitions, hitting the market where people always gather in the morning,” Filashkin said.
Hellish strike on civilians: air bombs and ruins where life once thrived
In addition to the market, Russia dropped two air bombs: damaging an industrial zone, three apartment buildings, three private houses, commercial pavilions, and vehicles.
Among the dead are two women and five men aged 43 to 81. The injured sustained blast injuries, fractures, and other trauma.
“This is another deliberate war crime and clear proof that all Russian claims about a ‘ceasefire’ are worthless,” emphasized Filashkin.
Rescue services are working on-site to assist victims and clear the aftermath. A criminal case for war crimes has been opened (Part 2, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Russia cynically targets civilians while the world hopes for a ceasefire
This strike underscores that Russia uses any negotiations only to accumulate force and terrorize civilians.
The city, once a vibrant center of Donetsk, has now become a frontline and a ruin.
All services are working on recovery, but the Druzhkivka tragedy is a clear warning of civilian danger in any occupied regions.
