A Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia on 3 February killed two 18-year-olds and left several others wounded, including children, regional officials said, as the city remained under extended air raid alert.

The strike hit around 6:00PM local time, when many residents were commuting home, according to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration.

Three children among the wounded

Fedorov later confirmed that at least nine people were injured. Three children - a 15-year-old girl and two boys aged 11 and 12 - required medical treatment. Three victims were hospitalized, with the teenage girl reported to be in critical condition.

The attack damaged a multi-story apartment building, as well as shops and parked cars. Emergency services and volunteer organizations are working at the scene.

City under air alert for nearly 24 hours

Fedorov said air raid sirens had been sounding in Zaporizhzhia for 23 hours by the time the casualties were confirmed.

“As soon as the security situation allows, we will begin documenting the damage. But, sadly, human lives cannot be brought back,” Fedorov said.

Zaporizhzhia, a regional center in southeastern Ukraine, has come under repeated Russian fire as Moscow continues attacks on civilian areas and urban infrastructure far from active ground fighting.
