Ukraine has received 1,000 bodies of fallen soldiers in repatriation procedures conducted on 29 January, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
"Repatriation measures took place, as part of which 1,000 bodies (remains) of the dead were returned to Ukraine, which, according to the Russian side, belong to Ukrainian defenders," the Coordination Headquarters reported.
Law enforcement investigators, together with representatives of Ukrainian expert institutions, will now carry out all necessary measures aimed at identifying the repatriated dead.
The repatriation was made possible through joint work of representatives from the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and other structures of the Security and Defense Sector of Ukraine.
This marks the first return of Ukrainian fallen soldiers' remains in 2026. On 19 December 2025, Ukraine received 1,003 bodies, which, according to the Russian side, belonged to Ukrainian military personnel.
