American defense company V2X has signed a contract with the US Missile Defense Agency to develop the SHIELD multi-layered defense system, with the total supply volume yet to be disclosed. Previously, V2X secretly deployed the Tempest air defense system to Ukraine for testing, Defense Express reports.
These trials mean that Ukrainian experience in countering Russian weapons will change the development of next-generation US defense systems.
Golden Dome's foundation: future US defense architecture
The SHIELD program is designed to develop cutting-edge solutions supporting a multi-layered missile defense architecture for the US armed forces.
Maximum contract values under the project could reach $151 billion, forming the backbone of President Donald Trump’s “Golden Dome” initiative, which may total over $170 billion. Details on the specific systems to be developed under SHIELD have not yet been disclosed.
“V2X bets on innovation: from sensors to global defense operations”
V2X has stated it will collaborate with the Missile Defense Agency to accelerate the deployment of innovative defense capabilities across multiple domains.
The SHIELD IDIQ contract aligns with the work V2X does to defend its country, said Jeremy K. Wensinger, President and CEO of V2X.
It includes support for sensor technologies, missile defense programs, and the integration of global defense operations.
