A Russian Shahed drone struck a dormitory of the National Aviation University in Kyiv's Solomyanskyi district on the morning of 27 December, according to hromadske correspondent.
The drone hit the ninth floor of the building. Students were inside at the time of the strike, but no one was injured—the room that was hit happened to be empty during the attack. Windows were blown out throughout the dormitory.
Computer science student Khrystyna told hromadske the explosion occurred around 8:00 am.
"We were sleeping, our alarms were about to go off, and the window started 'glowing.' My neighbor and I ran barefoot into the corridor, and that's when the explosion happened. Fortunately, it didn't hit our room," the student said.
Buildings adjacent to the dormitory also had their windows blown out.
Broader attack
The strike on the university dormitory was part of a larger assault on Kyiv and the oblast during the night of 27 December. Russian forces deployed nearly 500 strike drones and 40 missiles against Ukraine.
The attack left nearly one-third of the capital without heat. Parts of the left bank also lost electricity.
One man was killed in Kyiv, and 28 people were injured, including two children. Twelve people were hospitalized, while others received care on-site or outpatient treatment.
In Kyiv Oblast, Russian forces targeted critical infrastructure and residential areas. A 47-year-old woman was killed in Bila Tserkva district. A man in the same district was wounded and hospitalized. In Vyshhorod district, a private house fire caused five people—three women, one man, and an 8-year-old child—to suffer acute stress reactions.
