President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that he will meet with US President Donald Trump on 28 December, where they will discuss a plan to end the war that is currently 90% complete. The meeting will take place at the Mar-a-Lago residence, according to Axios.
During the press meeting with journalists, Zelenskyy outlined what the leaders will address at their meeting. Ukrainian and American teams have already prepared initial drafts of documents. The meeting at the leaders' level should finalize issues that cannot be resolved at the advisers' level.
"The 20-point plan we have been working on is 90% ready. Our goal is to bring everything to 100%. That is not easy. And no one is saying it will definitely be achieved instantly, but nevertheless, with every such meeting and every such conversation, we must bring the desired outcome closer," Zelenskyy said.
The agenda will include security guarantees and Ukraine's reconstruction. The presidents will also review a document that should form the basis of a war settlement plan.
Asked about the chances of Russia agreeing to this plan, Zelenskyy said he is not focused on Moscow's "desires," as Russia always looks for reasons to refuse.
" The answer is very simple. If Ukraine presents its position, it is constructive. And if Russia, for example, does not agree, it means the pressure is insufficient. This is also something I want to discuss with the President of the United States," the head of state emphasized.
Zelenskyy added that he is in constant contact with EU leaders regarding European partners' participation in negotiations. Due to tight deadlines, gathering all leaders offline together with Donald Trump is currently unlikely, but partners will join online.
The president stressed the need to find a format for negotiations involving Ukraine, the US, and Europe simultaneously in the near future, as many points of the plan and documents regarding Ukraine's future directly depend on the position of European countries.
On 25 December, Zelenskyy reported that he held a conversation with US President's representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, during which they discussed "some significant details of the work." Representatives of the Ukrainian delegation who were at the negotiations in Miami were also present.
