Ukrainian forces are testing new weapons to counter Russia’s guided aerial bomb (KAB) attacks, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These measures come as Ukrainian air defense units reportedly destroyed nearly 100 Russian KABs between September and November.
Ukraine boosts air defenses against KAB bombs and Geran drones
A regular capabilities development meeting was held within the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where officials reviewed performance and discussed future needs. Topics ranged from strengthening air defense to enhancing military education for specialists, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on 30 November.
In parallel, Russia has continued using jet-powered Geran drones as part of its broader aerial offensive. By the end of November, 138 jet-powered drones had been launched, most of which were intercepted by Ukrainian air defense forces. The military emphasized that such threats require constant adaptation and the integration of innovative technology.
Intelligence briefings during the event highlighted Russia’s efforts to improve the accuracy and intensity of its combined missile and drone attacks. In response, Ukrainian defense leadership outlined new tools to neutralize such threats.
Beyond anti-KAB tools, the General Staff reported testing of several advanced military technologies. These include combat and interceptor drones, robotic ground platforms, and new combat modules. Additional efforts are underway in electronic warfare and automation to meet the needs of modern battlefield conditions.
