Switzerland plans to allocate 1.5 billion Swiss francs (approximately $1.7 billion) for Ukraine’s reconstruction projects over the next four years, the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine reported on 2 October.
The announcement followed a meeting between the ministry’s head, Oleksiy Kuleba, and the Swiss Ambassador to Ukraine, Felix Baumann.
Ambassador Baumann said that 1 billion francs ($1.1 billion) from this sum will be directed towards local self-government, demining, and humanitarian aid sectors. The remaining funds will be used for reconstruction programs involving the Swiss private sector.
According to Baumann, the Swiss representative will work in Ukraine and will be responsible for the implementation of this project. He also noted that a delegation from the private sector is currently in Kyiv, familiarizing themselves with Ukraine’s medium- and long-term needs in areas under the ministry’s responsibility.
The ministry recalled Switzerland’s ongoing support programs for Ukraine, including reconstruction initiatives, joint projects with Ukrzaliznytsia, and assistance during heating season preparations.
According to the ministry, in 2023, the Swiss government approved a four-year aid package totaling 100 million Swiss francs ($118 million), particularly for humanitarian demining in Ukraine.
Switzerland also supports a program that assists mine victims and small farms that cannot cultivate their fields.
Switzerland has announced the Ukrainian Conference on Mine Action (UMAC2024), scheduled for 17-18 October in Lausanne.
