Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that France will soon prepare and fully equip a Ukrainian brigade following his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The proposal comes as Ukraine seeks international support in the ongoing war. Its focus is on strengthening its military capabilities through partnerships with allied nations.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the current battlefield situation and the needs of Ukrainian soldiers. “Each of our meetings with President Emmanuel Macron strengthens relations between our countries and produces results that help protect lives,” Zelenskyy wrote.
According to the report, the presidents focused on further strengthening Ukraine’s air defense system with French assistance and military training. The leaders also discussed the results of recent thematic conferences on individual points of the “peace formula” and preparations for a meeting on nuclear security, where France heads the working group.
Zelenskyy and Macron addressed the preparation for the second Peace Summit as well.
Ukraine also proposed a new initiative called the “Northern Brigade” to Nordic countries, inviting them to each prepare and equip a Ukrainian battalion. During a seminar for the Nordic defense industry on 25 September, Polishchuk addressed defense directors from Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland, and Sweden, urging them to engage in bilateral cooperation and invest in Ukraine’s defense industry.
